Lauterbach, Deutschland - In Germany, a frightening amount of 11 to 18 million tons of food is thrown away annually. The boards are an important answer to this problem and are committed to distributing excess foods to needy people. There are currently 60 volunteers available, but 15 support forces are required every day to maintain the operation. It is particularly the Saturdays where only six out of 25 drivers are available for the service.

In this context, the board has developed a sophisticated system to check and sort the saved foods. Inedible foods are disposed of in a biogas plant.

An interesting aspect of the offer of the Lauterbacher Tafel represents the compilation of the food boxes. These are individually packed according to the needs of the legitimate families. The approximately 100 legitimate families move pre -packed boxes, with 40 more located on a waiting list. The proof of a basic security notice is a prerequisite for enjoying food. The board makes sure not to put alcoholic drinks in the boxes.

A call to participate

In order to continue to save the valuable foods in front of the bin and help people, the Lauterbacher Tafel is looking for new volunteers. Anyone who wants to get involved is very welcome, because there are more interested parties than available foods.
