Visions of the future: Experience curiosities from cartoons in Kassel!

The exhibition “You cook on your smartphone? – The future in cartoons” in the Caricatura Gallery in Kassel is currently making a name for itself. Until July 20, 2025, visitors have the opportunity to marvel at the works of 44 talented cartoonists. The exhibition, which opened on May 10th, shows strange and ironic and thoughtful visions of the future that make you smile and think. Seknews reports, that the creative ideas include bizarre topics such as robots on strike, fish fingers as a means of payment and even a retirement age of 180.

The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Entry costs 6 euros, reduced prices are only 4 euros. Visitors receive special attention through an accompanying online exhibition where they can submit their own visions of the future. Under Kassel cultural station you can find out more about this exciting initiative and take part in the raffle for ten books for the exhibition.

A look at other exhibitions

While Kassel boasts amusing visions of the future, the Obere Saline Museum in Bad Kissingen, in cooperation with the Caricatura Gallery, is showing a completely different facet of cartoon art. The exhibition “Best Pictures – German Cartoon Prize 2023” is an official honor of the best submissions and highlights the top artists of the past year. Franconian day noted that over 3,000 works were submitted for this prize. The list of winners is a real treat: OL from Berlin not only secured first place, but also the audience award.

Other important places went to Hauck & Bauer and Ruth Hebler, who also shone with their cartoons. The exhibition in Bad Kissingen is dedicated to current topics such as the Ukrainian war, climate change and a shortage of skilled workers and includes 58 carefully selected cartoons by artists such as Uwe Krumbiegel and Miriam Wurster. This exhibition can be visited until September 15, 2023, with opening hours from Wednesday to Sunday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Both exhibitions, whether in Kassel or Bad Kissingen, impressively show how lively the cartoon art scene is in Germany. With a mixture of humor and critical reflection, the artists wonderfully express the social challenges and visions of the future that affect us all. So head to the exhibitions to treat yourself to an inspiring and entertaining day!
