Important route closures in Kassel: This is how it affects traffic!
The city of Kassel is facing some changes to local transport that will take effect from July 28, 2025 to August 17, 2025. The reason for this is necessary construction work on the Harleshäuser curve, which will result in the RegioTram route being closed between Vellmar-Obervellmar and Kassel main station. During this time, the RT1 line will be redirected to Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe without any further stops, while a replacement bus service will be set up for the RT4 line, which will serve the stops Kassel Jungfernkopf, Harleshausen train station and Frasenweg, among others. However, the Vellmar Osterberg/EKZ stop will no longer be available, which could certainly pose challenges for some passengers. Further route closures affect the RB4 and RT4 lines between Volkmarsen and Zierenberg, where replacement rail services are also necessary. Information on the affected stops is summarized in the special information on route closures.
As the NVV reports on its website nvv.de, current information about the status of the lines is also available every five minutes. Anyone who would like to find out more about the various lines and their timetables can find comprehensive data on the affected routes on the NVV passenger information. The RT1 line connects Hofgeismar-Hümme with Kassel main station and extends to Holländische Straße, while the RT4 from Wolfhagen also runs to the main station via Zierenberg.
Further changes to the transport network
In addition to the closures mentioned, there will be further changes to Kassel's local transport. The RB4 line will be canceled from July 7th to August 16th, 2025 between Volkmarsen and Ahnatal-Weimar. The RT4 will also not run between Wolfhagen and Zierenberg during this time, which is already likely to cause residual confusion. Instead, buses are intended to replace rail. The RT5 line will also have to contend with a route closure from July 5th to 27th, 2025, meaning that trains will be canceled in the section between Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and Auestadion.
But these are not the only diversions: There is currently construction work in front of the Kassel Clinic, which also results in diversions on lines 3, 12 and 13. There will also be diversions and canceled stops at Scheidemannplatz from July 5th to 28th, 2025, which poses additional challenges for passengers. It is worth consulting the information about the current changes before setting off in order to avoid problems.
