New foxhole in Petterweil: daycare center manager and garbage problems in focus!

A lot is happening in Petterweil. The new daycare center, which is being built to the delight of many parents, will be called “Fuchsbau” and is expected to be completed at the beginning of September 2025. Peter Malek has been taking over the management of this facility since July 1, 2025. With the construction of the Fuchsbau, the care landscape in the region will be significantly improved and is generating great interest, as fnp.de reports.

The municipality has also approved the development plan for the “Brunnenquartier” and the “Am Spitzacker” commercial area, which indicates continuous development in the areas of infrastructure and living space. Mayor Guido Rahn (CDU) informed citizens about current challenges in garbage collection, which have led to numerous calls. To counteract this, a new waste disposal point was created.

Digital advances for citizens

An important issue that the city administration is currently addressing is the expansion of online services. Since mid-June, digital registrations and re-registrations as well as marriages have been possible. This has the advantage that administration becomes more efficient and citizens have the opportunity to carry out official business from home. Digitalization is also becoming more and more widespread in Karben. Robin Münk has been the digitalization officer since July 1, 2025 and will continue to drive these developments forward.

The conversion of the “Stadtpunkt” into a “citizens’ office” is a further step in this direction. In all of these advances, the security-conscious management of citizen data plays an essential role. In this context, the recommendations of the Fraunhofer Institute are important, which in its guideline “Use municipal data correctly” shows numerous fields of application and options for action that are crucial for future-oriented urban development. As fraunhofer.de notes, digital services and the collection of municipal data could help to increase the quality of life in the community.

Important information and safety measures

Last but not least, there were also current abnormalities that affect the community. Care protocols were not followed for the urn lawn graves, which is why affected relatives are asked to remove jewelry. The wedding room in the town hall will also be moved to a brighter room with a balcony in order to offer the newlyweds a nicer setting.

However, the SPD's application for mobile polling stations in old people's and nursing homes did not receive approval. The city also warned of an increase in fake calls in which people pretend to be city police employees. This shows once again how important it is to inform citizens about such topics.

All in all, Karben shows that things are moving in terms of infrastructure as well as digitalization and citizen services. The challenges arising from this dynamic development, as well as the security aspects, must always be kept in mind.
