New Offenbach forest swimming pool: modernization for sport and leisure!
A new chapter for the Rosenhöhe forest swimming pool is approaching! From September 1st, 2024, Sport und Freizeit GmbH Offenbach (SFO), a subsidiary of Stadtwerke, will take over the operation of the popular outdoor pool. In this context, best OF swim GmbH, under the leadership of managing director Matthias Wörner, who is also chairman of the first Offenbach swimming club from 1896, will assume responsibility. Wörner expresses personal emotions about saying goodbye to the old building, but is optimistic about the changes ahead.
The first chairman of the 1923 Offenbach water sports club, Peter Ortwein, points out the importance of the new infrastructure building, which will significantly enrich the local sports and club landscape. It is not only a springboard for the positive development of the 1923 Offenbach water sports club, but also serves as a crucial basis for the two main users of the pool, the First Offenbach Swimming Club and the water sports club.
Accessibility and sustainability in focus
Particular attention is paid to the accessibility of the new bathroom. It meets all structural, operational, technical and hygienic requirements. In addition, economic, energetic and sustainable aspects are taken into account during planning, so that the energy requirement of the new building will be significantly lower than the existing one. The use of renewable energy ensures that the bathroom is not only modern but also environmentally friendly.
The Hessian state government supports increasing the attractiveness of swimming pools throughout Hesse. As part of the SWIMplus program, which emerged from the immediate program “11+1 for Hesse”, a total of 25 million euros in funding is available for the years 2024 and 2025. This initiative aims not only to promote the swimming ability of children and adults, but also to strengthen social interactions in the swimming pools. As the state of Hesse reports, swimming pools are much more than just sports facilities; they are places of encounter and togetherness.
Funding and investments
The Rosenhöhe forest swimming pool received over 760,000 euros for renovation measures in 2021 and even benefited from a maximum funding of one million euros in 2023 for the construction of a functional building. The construction and renovation of sports facilities in Hesse is an important concern of the state government, which will invest more than 68 million euros in sports infrastructure in 2024. This also includes funding to increase the attractiveness of our swimming pools, with measures such as brine pools, slides and children's play pools.
The majority of 189 projects in 163 swimming pools have been supported with over 50 million euros in the last five years thanks to the SWIM program. With the new SWIMplus funding guideline, which comes into force on September 24th, 2024, new projects for 2025 can be registered until November 1st, 2024. The funding allocation for larger projects is up to one million euros, while smaller projects can even receive funding of up to 60 percent.
