Register now: Hochtaunuskreis is taking part in CITY CYCLING 2025!

The Hochtaunuskreis focuses on sustainable mobility and invites all citizens to take part in CITY CYCLING. This international campaign, which will take place from September 7th to 27th, 2025, aims to promote cycling and make a contribution to climate protection. District Administrator Ulrich Krebs calls on the population to actively participate and collect kilometers together for a better climate. Registration for everyone who lives or works in the Hochtaunuskreis is now possible at stadtradeln.de/anmelden.

Last year, almost 2,900 participants in the Hochtaunuskreis covered an impressive 436,000 kilometers and thus saved 72 tons of CO2. Oberursel, Königstein and Kronberg were the front runners when it came to kilometers cycled. The competition isn't just exciting for adults; Schools can also get their money's worth. Classes and schools have the opportunity to compete with each other in school cycling and win trophies for the most kilometers. The most active primary schools and the most creative contributions are rewarded. The deadline for all campaigns and ideas is October 1, 2025.

School activities and competitions

Particular attention is paid to competition between schools. Teams with over 20 participants have the chance to win the coveted Hochtaunuskreis Cup. In 2024, the Oberursel schools took the podium places in the primary school competition; the Burgwiesenschule made it to third place among the “most cycling-active primary schools” in Hesse. It remains exciting to see which educational institution will come up with the best ideas and cycle the most kilometers this year.

Technical support for cyclists

To make riding even easier and more attractive, the CITY CYCLING app is available free of charge. The app allows participants to track the routes they cycle. In addition, the collected cycling data is anonymized and scientifically evaluated. This information can be used by municipalities to further expand the cycling infrastructure in the Hochtaunuskreis. Cyclists have the opportunity to found their own teams or join existing teams.

Incidentally, in 2024, the Hochtaunuskreis was in 154th place out of 2,886 German municipalities. A good result that makes you want more and should encourage citizens to be even more active this year. In order to take part in the above-mentioned competitions, prior registration is necessary. We ask for your understanding for possible delays in processing registrations until activation has taken place.

By the way, if you're looking for other exciting events while cycling in the CITY, you shouldn't miss the upcoming total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026. This special celestial phenomenon is the first total solar eclipse for mainland Europe since 1999 and will also be visible from Frankfurt. If you don't want to miss the events, you should find a good spot in good time, as it is estimated that around 980 million people worldwide will be able to see the eclipse.

The CITY CYCLING initiative is waiting for a lot of interest and active participation. So get on your bike and join in – every kilometer counts!
