Double victory for WTHC: Men and women celebrate brilliant home successes!

On June 17, 2025, Wiesbadener THC (WTHC) had two reasons to be happy! The men's and women's teams both celebrated victory in their final home games of the field season. In the 2nd Bundesliga South, the men secured three important points, while the women made their chance of staying in the league more likely.

The men's team had a less good start to the game against HC Ludwigsburg. Lasse Jauernig gave the guests the lead in the first half. But after the half-time break, the Wiesbaden team showed their fighting spirit and increased the pressure. Henry Ely equalized in the 34th minute, and shortly afterwards Nico Rothengatter scored the winning goal. Rothengatter remains a guarantee for goals this season and is currently in third place on the goalscorer list with a total of 15 goals. Coach Stefan Zeller particularly praised his team's strong defensive performance as well as the goalkeepers David Haas and Felix Langer, who showed their best performances under stress. An emotional moment was the farewell to long-time players such as Dennis Pütz, Niklas Hertl, Luca Wild and Valentin Esterhues. Despite the victory, the WTHC men are currently in 6th place in the table, while the next game is on June 22nd against TG Frankenthal.

Strong performance from the ladies

The women of the WTHC also showed a strong performance in the home game against VfL Bad Kreuznach. After an even half-time score of 1:1 - Silja Wagner scored the goal for Wiesbaden - the women needed the last few minutes to score the decisive goal. Lynn-Sophie Kowalczek finally secured victory shortly before the end. Despite the successful game, coach Josef Holm emphasized that the team still had to work on its discipline. With this win, the women secure three points, but still face the challenge of securing relegation. Their next game is also on June 22nd against the HTC Stuttgarter Kickers.

Insight into seasonal performance

The 2024/25 season wasn't exactly easy for the 1st women, they are in 6th place in the regional league after the first half of the season. The 2nd women of the WTHC took 3rd place in the association league, which is a mixed result. While the first men's team was in 7th place last season, they have already reached their current 5th place at half time and are therefore showing a significant increase in performance.

As a club, the WTHC is particularly proud of its youth work. The wU14 won the Hesse championship and played in the round of 16 of the German championship, even though they narrowly failed in the penalty shootout. The mU12, on the other hand, became the topic of “waiting for the big hit” and ended the season due to a decision at the green table. The wU10 and wU8 are also very popular and round off the comprehensive range of sports on offer.

Overall, the WTHC's commitment shows that the sport of field hockey continues to be very popular. Despite a slight decline in membership numbers, the German Hockey Association has recorded a steadily growing popularity of the game, and not without reason: Hockey delights fans big and small nationwide.
