Future visions for BUGA 2029: Creative ideas from Rüdesheim presented!
On November 7, 2025, an exciting exhibition was opened in Rüdesheim am Rhein that focuses on the future development of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Under the title “Ideas and solutions for BUGA 2029”, students from various universities present creative visions and concepts that are intended to enrich the world cultural heritage between Koblenz and Bingen. [idw-online](https://nachrichten.idw-online.de/2025/11/10/ exhibition-zu-visionen-fuer-das-obere-mittelrheintal-einweiht) reports that the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences, the Bingen Technical University, the University of Koblenz and the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences are involved in this exhibition.
The exhibition, initiated by State Minister Ingmar Jung from the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, stands out through a variety of formats: Visitors can look forward to posters, video contributions and models on topics such as the BUGA pavilion and the concepts for the Hindenburg Bridge. Innovative ideas for reducing traffic noise and the planning of the BUGA Hafenpark Rüdesheim are also part of the presentation. The show will take place on the coming weekends, November 15th and 16th, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Asbach Halls.
Insights into BUGA 2029
The Federal Garden Show, or BUGA for short, will take place in 2029 in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. This major event is intended to sustainably enhance the region and provide space for numerous projects that are already being initiated. hunsrueck-mittelrhein emphasizes that the planning of BUGA GmbH is already in full swing. The company will soon move into its new office on the market square in Oberwesel.
The selected BUGA development projects include the Rheinfels Castle Foreshore, which covers an impressive 5.2 hectares. The BUGA gardens will feature themed gardens and seasonal plantings, while other planned locations such as the Michelfeld and the city wall garden in Oberwesel are intended to create interesting attractions. Smaller projects in the communities of the Rhine Heights are also underway to prepare the region for the upcoming events.
Special attractions and projects
In addition to BUGA, there are also other exciting projects on the horizon. A world cultural trail for hikers will open its doors on June 22nd and a high-altitude cycle path for e-bikers is also in the pipeline. Special viewing points, the so-called Rhine terraces, are also lovingly designed to bring visitors closer to the beauty of the Rhine Valley. These development measures show how the region can be cleverly steered towards the BUGA and at the same time exploit its tourism potential.
The opening was moderated by Nadja Hilfrich, a committed student of landscape architecture and landscape planning, who gave those present a deep insight into the students' long-term visions. Welcome words came from Daniel Köfer, State Secretary in the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture, and other representatives, who underlined the importance of the Federal Garden Show for the region.
So the project is more than just a show; it offers a platform for creative ideas that could transform the image of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The commitment of the students shows that fresh perspectives are very popular and the path to BUGA 2029 is already being paved, with promising visions of the future that will accompany us in the coming years.
