Hofheimer Johannesgemeinde: New pastor brings a breath of fresh air!
In the Evangelical Johannesgemeinde in Hofheim there is light at the end of the tunnel. The vacant position of pastor will be filled next March by Iannis Kaiser. That's what she reports Frankfurter Neue Presse. The congregation has been without a pastor for almost a year, which has been a challenge for many members, but the community has overcome shortages well through initiative and cooperation.
Benjamin Held, community officer, clarified the situation during the vacancy, which is now coming to an end. The former pastor, Friedemann vom Dahl, had encouraged the congregation to act independently. The members followed this call: Since January, five preachers have been holding the Sunday services, and Held has been coordinating the important confirmation work with the support of former confirmation candidates.
A new priest brings a breath of fresh air
The new pastor, Iannis Kaiser, will officially take office on March 1, 2026. He is currently completing his special vicariate at the CVJM-Westbund e.V., as the last part of his training. The community is excited about future collaboration and the impulses that Kaiser will bring. It was also announced that objections against the occupation can be addressed to the church leadership within two weeks, in accordance with the requirements of the EKHN's pastoral law.
The spiritual care of the community did not fall by the wayside during the vacancy. Among other things, the Johannesgemeinde supports the activities of Benjamin Held and youth speaker Leonie Backs through targeted donations, which ensures the financial framework for the church community. This is also reflected in the emphasis on youth work, which is a strong focus through the CVJM and the Konfi-Teamer model.
Working together for a strong community
Karin Walch, chairwoman of the church council, emphasizes that the vacancy has brought a valuable insight: churchgoers do not tend to switch to neighboring congregations if services are canceled. This speaks for the solidarity and identity of the community, which focuses on the major goal of forming an overall church community. A merger with other communities as part of the future process “EKHN 2030” is being considered, with each community retaining its name and identity.
With the arrival of Iannis Kaiser, the Johannesgemeinde is facing an exciting new phase. The anticipation is great and the community is optimistic about the future - there is definitely something to come!
