What a spectacular race! At this year's German championship in elite road cycling On July 2nd in Linden, under oppressive temperatures of 30 degrees, driver Georg Zimmermann from the Intermarché-Wanty team prevailed over Felix Engelhardt (Jayco AlUla) in a thrilling photo finish. Anton Schiffer from Team Bike Aid secured the bronze medal and thus secured an emotional high point for German cycling.
The event, which took place over a distance of almost 200 kilometers, was characterized by dramatic twists and intense battles. Immediately after the start, co-favorite Emanuel Buchmann (Cofidis) suffered a technical mishap, causing him to fall out of the first group. According to Zimmermann, the emotions after the end of the race were “indescribable” and he emphasized that the support of his team was crucial for this triumph. Engelhardt, on the other hand, was positive about his second place, despite missing out on the championship title.
The event was supported by Škoda Auto Germany, which ensured everything ran smoothly. The all-electric Škoda Elroq was there to properly celebrate the brand's 130th anniversary.
