Desert field in turmoil: arson at the cannibal's house revealed!
In the horrifying shadow of its former owner, Germany's most famous cannibal, Armin Meiwes, the infamous house in Wüstefeld has now burned to the ground. The fire, which broke out on April 17, 2023, called the fire department into action, with 80 firefighters arriving to fight the flames. According to information from HNA The cause is arson and the public prosecutor's office has already initiated investigations against unknown persons.
The horror fans who have been hanging out in and around the abandoned house over the last few years will probably look at the events with an uneasy feeling. The property, which became a sad memorial to Meiwes' heinous actions, was not only a place of crime but also a magnet for curious visitors, leading to frequent police and fire calls. Mayor Christian Grunwald is satisfied with the burning as he hopes to prevent it from becoming a place of pilgrimage.
Young people are the focus of the investigation
As part of the investigation, four young men from the old Rotenburg district were charged before the Bad Hersfeld youth jury court. Picture reported that a 20-year-old defendant confessed to setting the fires. Another incident that took place on April 6, 2023 involved a party bus in Heinebach, which also burst into flames. An adjacent building also burned. The preparations for these arsons were apparently made in a garden shed. After all, a wooden shed belonging to the rabbit association in Heinebach was also burned down at the same time.
The April incidents left investigators very excited. On April 11, just one day before the Meiwes fire, bales of wood burned in the area. All crimes were also documented with cell phone videos, which made it much easier for investigators to provide evidence. The 20-year-old was given a two-week long-term arrest and also has to deal with youth court assistance. These are two very shaven boys who, with a certain recklessness, have taken to one of the scariest places in Germany.
A dark legacy
Armin Meiwes himself, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in 2006, has nothing to do with the outside of the house to this day. On Wikipedia and in the media, his name is inextricably linked with shocking details: On March 10, 2001, he killed his Internet acquaintance Bernd Jürgen Brandes and ate parts of his body. The burning house becomes another chapter in an already dark story, while the neighbors express relief that the nightmare has finally come to an end.
People in the region remain tense, as the Bad Hersfeld criminal police are still investigating unknown people and the fire and the actions of the young people raise questions about how something like this could have happened in our midst. What happens now to the land on which the house stood? Demolition is already being planned to prevent the ruin from becoming another horror tourism destination.
