Shocking accident on Friedloser Straße: Two injured in Bad Hersfeld!

A terrible traffic accident injured two people on Friedloser Street in Bad Hersfeld on Saturday. The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. when a 70-year-old driver of a Renault Twingo wanted to turn into a parking lot. In order to let the 35-year-old driver of an Opel Crossland through, he reduced his speed, which had fatal consequences. The 22-year-old driver of an Alfa Romeo noticed the braking maneuver too late and was unable to stop in time.

In a desperate attempt to avoid a collision, she swerved to the left and hit the Twingo before colliding head-on with the Opel. According to the Hersfeld newspaper The driver of the Alfa Romeo and the Opel driver were slightly injured. Fortunately, a four-year-old child who was sitting in the Opel was uninjured. The material damage amounts to around 18,000 euros, and both the Alfa Romeo and the Renault Twingo were no longer drivable after the accident and had to be towed away.

Causes of accidents and road safety

ADAC accident research, which has been analyzing serious traffic accidents in Germany since 2005, shows that many accidents are caused by various factors. Driver distraction and fatigue play a major role, especially on country roads where the risk is much higher. Over 10% of accidents outside of built-up areas are caused by distracted or tired drivers, and a significant proportion of accidents occur while turning or turning, especially among older drivers. These findings come from extensive data analyzes that the ADAC regularly publishes to promote preventive measures to prevent accidents.

ADAC research has already led to valuable improvements in road safety in the past, such as the introduction of the rescue card and the legal requirement of emergency braking assistants for trucks since 2015. In addition, from 2024, a turning assistant for trucks will be mandatory in order to avoid accidents with unprotected road users. The seat belt requirement, introduced in 1984, has reduced the number of road deaths by a remarkable 75%, further demonstrating the importance of road safety measures.

While the current accident in Bad Hersfeld fortunately ended lightly, the issue of road safety remains an important concern that everyone should be more attentive to. This is how each of us can help minimize the risk of traffic accidents and make the roads safer.
