New section of the A4: 197 million euros for Bad Hersfeld's traffic safety!
Today's groundbreaking ceremony for the A4 near Bad Hersfeld marks an important step towards renewing the transport infrastructure in Hesse. The festive event, which attracted many celebrities from politics and administration, included Christian Hirte, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Transport, and Dr. Michael Güntner, chairman of the board of the federal Autobahn GmbH, was present. Cord Lüesse, Director of the Northwest Branch of Autobahn GmbH, and Ines Fröhlich, State Secretary in the Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas, were also pleased with the progress that this project brings with it Autobahn.de reports.
The first partial construction phase, for which a total of around 197 million euros will be spent, includes the demolition and construction of five bridges as well as the construction of two noise barriers with a total length of around two kilometers. This includes the addition of continuous hard shoulders and additional lanes on uphill stretches, so that traffic safety and traffic flow are to be significantly improved. Forecasts suggest that by 2030 around 40,000 vehicles will be traveling on this section every day.
Bridges and noise protection measures
The bridges to be replaced include the Becherbach underpasses, Eichhof city street, B62 and DB, Fuldaaltarm and Fulda. In addition, the aim is to achieve comprehensive noise reduction with the construction of a new noise barrier in Eichhof and the construction of three rain retention basins. The asphalt will be designed to reduce noise in order to significantly reduce noise pollution for residents.
The A4 plays a central role in the trans-European transport network and is of considerable importance for connecting Thuringia and Hesse with regional roads. It not only enables short routes to the Rhine-Main area, but also a connection to other important transport axes in Germany and Europe, which Umweltbundesamt.de takes note of.
Overall project and surroundings
The overall project, which includes the complete renovation of the A4 between the Kirchheim motorway triangle and the Wildeck/Obersuhl junction, is structurally divided into several sections. The Bad Hersfeld-West section, which begins west of the Eichhofsiedlung and crosses the Fuldaaue and the Fulda, will be important for future mobility in the region. In the second construction phase, further measures such as a parking space and toilet facility are planned on the Eisenach direction.
The importance of the A4 is not only reflected in the ease of getting around, but also in the country's overall economic development. It is therefore no wonder that the federal government is investing heavily here to resolve a renovation backlog and optimize the transport infrastructure.
In another part of Germany, people recently celebrated the completion of another A4 project between Düren and Kerpen. The new six-lane section was successfully put into operation there. Such developments show how important the modernization of roads is - after all, the road network is growing through continuous new construction measures, and traffic is constantly increasing, as the Federal Environment Agency shows.
