Training market: good opportunities for young people despite decline!
What is happening on the training market in Hesse? At a press conference after the employment agency's training market conference in Bad Hersfeld, a look at the current developments was taken. Matthias Dengler, the chairman of the management board, drew a consistently positive conclusion. The training market in the region is considered to be good, although there are some challenges to be overcome.
Current figures show that there will be around 138 training positions for every 100 applicants in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in 2024/25. For comparison: the Hesse-wide applicant-to-job ratio is 90, and in the Fulda district there are 131 training positions available to applicants. However, the numbers also show a decline: 843 training positions were reported in 2025, which corresponds to a decrease of 15.5% compared to the previous year. The number of registered applicants fell by 6.7% from 654 to 610.
Causes of declines
The reasons for this decline are diverse and are closely related to economic development. Dengler explained that the ongoing economic weakness played a central role. Despite these challenges, companies' willingness to provide training remains high. During the discussion, the representatives of the economic development agency and the district craftsmen's association emphasized the need for growth impulses from Berlin, which must also reach the region.
Another important topic that was discussed was the support offers for young people with deficits. There are increasing changes in the career aspirations of young people, which are primarily characterized by the influence of artificial intelligence. Careers in crafts and electronics are promising and are very popular.
Trainee fair 2025
A highlight for future trainees will be the trainee fair, which will take place on March 25th and 26th, 2025. Here, young people can contact companies directly and find out about training opportunities. Such events are particularly valuable for closing the gap between applicants and job providers.
In the future, the employment agency plans to better adapt its online offerings to the needs of users in order to make access easier. For example, the use of cookies is enabled to offer visitors optimal use of the website. Employment agency statistics explains that the use of cookies is crucial for technical requirements as well as for statistical purposes and to personalize offers.
Despite the challenges on the training market, the initial situation in the Hesse region remains fundamentally positive. The positive feedback and the high willingness of companies to provide training give reason to hope that the next few months will be promising in this regard.
