Battenberg gets new padel tennis: facility planned for sports enthusiasts!

Something exciting is happening in Battenberg: TSV Battenberg is planning a new padel tennis facility in the duck park. This sports offering, a mix of tennis and squash, is growing in popularity and could open as early as summer 2026. The facility will have a playing field measuring 10 x 20 meters and will be equipped with LED lighting, which will enable play even at dusk.

With an expected cost of around 80,000 euros, the association is hoping for financial support. The application for funding will be submitted shortly. There are potential subsidies totaling 55%, with 30% coming from the state of Hesse, 15% from the district and 10% from the city of Battenberg. The sports teacher Armin Kreutz is enthusiastic about the idea. His vision is that the students use the facility for school sports and help maintain the fields.

Interest and possible uses

An initial estimate is that there will be 40 to 50 interested people who want to benefit regularly from the new system. The plans stipulate that the facility will not be operated commercially. The exact details regarding the allocation and use of the places will be determined after the establishment of a special padel division of the TSV.

What makes padel so special? The intensity and the high level of contact are characteristic of this sport. Padel is played in a cage made of glass and wire mesh elements, and the rackets are also different: They are smaller than the classic tennis rackets. The ball has similarities to a tennis ball, but is filled with less internal pressure. Points are counted like in tennis, which adds extra excitement to the sport. The fact that this sport is easy to learn makes padel particularly inviting.

What the future of padel in Battenberg could look like will quickly depend on the initiative of the club and the support from the community. It remains to be seen how sports enthusiasts in the region will react to this new offer. A breath of fresh air could blow into the local sports scene.
