Duck racing in Büdingen: A spectacle for young and old!
On June 16, 2025, the idyllic Seemenbach in Büdingen will be the scene of a colorful spectacle: the fifth Büdingen duck race will attract hundreds of spectators to the banks between Schlossmühle and Lohsteg. The Rotary Club Büdingen, hosted and organized by a dedicated team led by President Carsten Mayer, is expecting around 1,000 squeaky ducks to compete in an exciting competition.
What’s special about this event? In addition to the big main race, in which the ducks fall from a bag hanging from a turntable ladder, there is also a prologue with the so-called “sponsor ducks”. They will be awarded a challenge cup for the award ceremony. Spectators can also look forward to creative and colorful ducks that come in all sorts of designs and decorations.
A celebration for a good cause
The proceeds from the duck race benefit schools, daycare centers and the fire department, which makes participation in this event even more valuable. During the competition, visitors are entertained by commentator Markus Karger, who further heats up the mood.
Culinary well-being is also taken care of. In addition to the racing, there are numerous opportunities to strengthen yourself and enjoy the atmosphere. Maybe one or two destinations are planned for family planning while the ducks glide calmly over the water.
Prizes and awards
The award ceremony promises real treasures: a total of 75 prizes will be awarded. The lucky winners can look forward to everything from shopping vouchers to a VIP card for Eintracht Frankfurt. A very special prize goes to the most imaginative duck, and Paulina Stepien can be happy with her frog prince race participant. The lamest duck, however, receives a consolation prize: a season ticket for the Büdinger outdoor pool and a swimming course.
- Gewinner der Schulklassenwertung: Klasse 3d der Büdinger Stadtschule
- Preis: Große Gummiente für ein Jahr im Klassenzimmer
The event takes place under the leadership of those responsible Daniel Giesbrecht and Jannik Völker from the Büdinger fire department, who are committed to ensuring that everything runs smoothly. “The duck race is not only a fun competition, but also important support for our community work,” explains Carsten Mayer.
Similar concepts to the Büdinger duck race also exist in other regions. Even the Rotary Club of Pinneberg can boast large numbers of participants - this year there are over 3,000 ducks taking part. For comparison: There are an estimated 1,000 ducks in Büdingen. The duck race in Pinneberg is held under the motto “Children learn democracy” and aims to promote a sense of community and the respectful handling of opinions.
The Büdinger duck race is more than just a colorful spectacle. It combines games, fun and community spirit while supporting important projects in the region. Get ready to cheer loudly!
