Garbage collection campaign inspires children: clean Degerfeld shines!
The “Clean Degerfeld” campaign took place in Butzbach on Wednesday, which was organized by the city of Butzbach’s integration and community work department. The event aims to locally implement the Hesse-wide “Clean Hesse” initiative. Despite the general cleanliness of the district, some carelessly discarded rubbish was picked up. This garbage collection campaign particularly made the children smile; They took part enthusiastically and actively helped with the collection.
The organizers had thought of everything: work utensils such as gloves, buckets and grippers were provided. After an hour, the collectors returned and were able to separate the waste they had collected into bins provided. As a small thank you, everyone who filled their bucket received a free bratwurst. Nadja Landau and her colleague provided food for the helpers at the pavilion in the playground.
Fun learning moments for the little ones
A special highlight was the “Wheel of Fortune”, which was filled with questions about waste separation and was supervised by climate protection manager Lorena Scheld. Here the children were not only able to test their knowledge, but also learned the importance of waste separation in a playful way and had a lot of fun doing it.
Such actions are not only educational, but also necessary to raise awareness about waste separation and avoidance. Because, as various studies show, correct waste separation is a key to cleanliness in our cities. By sorting waste into paper, glass, plastic and organic materials, we reduce pollution and enable the recycling of valuable resources. This not only saves money, but also makes a significant contribution to climate protection, as effective waste separation can prevent millions of tons of CO2 emissions every year.
The “Clean Hesse” campaign also calls for committed participation. Participants can share their impressions of activities and upload pictures on the platform. Committed citizens are also called upon to take responsibility and keep their neighborhoods clean during upcoming events such as the “Clean Children’s Day” in 2025 or the “Clean Route to School”. The registration period for the school initiative runs until June 17, 2025. The call to participate in these measures is clear: together we can shape a clean future!
It's impressive to see how the efforts of citizens, especially children, can help make our cities cleaner. Let's use this enthusiasm for waste separation and environmental protection to find a long-term sustainable solution to our waste problem. Because as the saying goes: “The best waste is the one that isn’t created in the first place!”
