Butzbach is planning a new multi-generational playground: Citizens help shape it!
Something is happening in Butzbach: A multi-generational (play) area is being created in the Bodenrod district. As part of the Hessian village development program, the city of Butzbach is planning a natural open space that will be accessible to all generations. The location, not far from the church, already has a beautiful tree population that will be integrated into the design of the new playground. The aim is to create space for community and encounters that is attractive to both the youngest and older citizens. The city of Butzbach reports that Citizen participation plays a central aspect in planning.
The citizens of Butzbach took the first step towards designing the square through workshops that took place on September 29th and October 20th, 2025. These events particularly invited children, young people, families and seniors to contribute their ideas and wishes for the future use and design of the square. On site, the participants explored the area and collected suggestions, which primarily revolved around lounge areas, barrier-free paths and natural play options. The feedback was diverse: wind- and weather-proof play equipment and exercise opportunities were discussed, as were places of retreat for the older generations.
Ecological aspects and planning
The discussions also focused on ecological aspects. The use of natural materials and the creation of shady areas were considered important. The planning should also take into account the topography of the site and ensure accessibility. A zoning concept is in the works, which will create different areas for play, exercise, rest and community. The concept will take into account the wishes and feedback from the workshops and serve as a basis for applying for funding.
Another interesting element that will flow into the design are lessons from the philosophy of Sebastian Kneipp. These approaches could integrate additional, health-oriented areas in the playground and thus further enrich the offering. The city of Butzbach plans to evaluate the findings from the workshops and tackle the next planning steps. Further citizen participation should follow in order to not only hear citizens' ideas once, but also incorporate them into the process on an ongoing basis. The city administration is convinced that this participatory approach will make the project a real benefit for all citizens.
But that's not all that awaits the Butzbachers in the future. Developments are also underway in other areas of the city that are intended to further improve the living environment of citizens. Be it through innovative social offerings or through other leisure opportunities. Rivian For example, offers exciting leasing offers that promote environmentally friendly mobility. If you are interested in new opportunities, you should take a look at the offers.
