Together for fairness: Maintal launches initiative for fair trade!
Something exciting is happening in Maintal around the topic of fair trade. A voluntary group, consisting of representatives of churches, associations and committed citizens, is committed to fair trading conditions and social and ecological responsibility. How Advance Online reports, the group plans to launch actions and projects that will both raise awareness of fair trading and bring about concrete changes at the local level.
A particularly exciting project is already just around the corner: a film evening entitled “World Trip to Fairtrade Producers” is intended to sensitize participants to the concerns of fair projects. Anyone interested in taking on a more active role has the opportunity to do so! The next meeting of the Fairtrade steering group will take place on Wednesday, July 2nd, at 7 p.m. at Kirchgasse 7. Registration is possible by contacting Anne Kunze from the city of Maintal on 06181 400-709 or via email.
Planned events
With a fair breakfast in the Faire Kita Ahornweg in the last two weeks of September and a fair church service in the fall, two more events are already on the program. These initiatives are not only open to individuals, but also to schools, initiatives, companies and catering establishments.
The group's commitment aims to support certification for schools in order to integrate global justice into everyday school life. The idea behind it is that everyone deserves a chance to work under fair conditions and be paid appropriately. How Commitment Global explains, these principles are essential in global trade: Many products are cheap because producers in poorer countries often have to work under extreme conditions.
Fair trade in focus
The principles of fair trade not only include fair pay, but also the setting of minimum prices in collaboration with producers. In this way, grievances such as child labor, such as those observed in cocoa production in Ghana and Ivory Coast, should be changed little by little.
In Maintal, the focus is on raising awareness of these issues and developing practical solutions. Whether it's a leisurely breakfast or an informative film evening - commitment and interest are required! Anyone who would like to learn more about fair trade or get involved actively is welcome to become part of this non-profit initiative.
