Day care team day: discover sensory experiences on the barefoot path!

The team day for day care workers from Erlensee and Neuberg took place today in the Bad Orb Barefoot Path, which was dedicated to “Discovering great things with small steps – sensory experiences in early childhood”. The event gave the specialists the opportunity to intensively examine the importance of sensory experiences in their educational work. In a relaxed atmosphere, the participants walked the approximately 4.5 kilometer long path and collected a variety of perceptual impressions.

The barefoot path, with its different floor coverings such as gravel, wood, clay, mud and grass, offered an ideal backdrop to consciously experience and reflect on the topic. The experiences were not only perceived individually, but also discussed intensively professionally. The particular focus was on how elementary sensory experiences can be integrated into everyday care in order to optimally support early childhood development. A picnic together after the tour promoted the exchange of educational challenges and experiences.

Sensory experiences as a key to development

As the literature shows, sensory experiences are crucial for children's development. According to a current specialist text by Linda Eich, children are stubborn, cheerful, careless and perceptive - characteristics that are closely linked to their perceptual development. The various sensory systems, such as hearing, seeing, smelling, touching and tasting, are fundamental to the child's cognitive and social development. In kindergarten, children learn to sharpen their senses and develop social skills while at the same time exploring and discovering their surroundings.

The input and discussions on this team day underline how important it is that day care workers make targeted use of sensory experiences in childcare. Educators have a significant influence on children's behavior and must actively promote these experiences. Practical suggestions from specialist literature help to develop interesting and creative methods for sensory perception, from smell and taste exercises to games that appeal to the sense of touch.

A strong network for early childhood education

The team day not only strengthened cooperation among the day care workers, but also the sense of community and exchange with the city of Erlensee's specialist childcare service. This close network is important because day care workers play a key role in early childhood education, care and upbringing.
