Bridge day full of highlights: celebrations and theater premiere in Gelnhausen!
Today is June 20, 2025 and things are colorful in the Main-Kinzig district! The bridge day after the public holiday in Gelnhausen is not only marked by the closure of the city administration, but also by cultural highlights that ring in the weekend.
The Peter von Orb theater group is celebrating the premiere of the play “The First Name” in the evening at 7:30 p.m. on the roller skating rink behind the tourist information center. Directed by Michael Heim, the plot, which begins with a harmless meeting and turns into a heated debate with the suggestion of naming a child “Adolphe”, provides the best entertainment. Tickets are available both online in the Spessart bookstore and at the box office, although there is an additional euro surcharge. There is also reason to celebrate in Birstein: the well-known GNZ local poet Fritz Walter turns 90 today!
Festival weekend in Großkrotzenburg
Another highlight starts in Großkrotzenburg, where the community's 850th anniversary is celebrated with a festival weekend. The celebrations begin this evening with an academic ceremony in the auditorium of the Franziskanergymnasium Kreuzburg. An attractive program awaits guests here: In addition to greetings, historical lectures will also be offered, accompanied by music from the 4-Kantrohr group and the St. Cäcilia church choir.
Things really get going on Saturday, June 21st. The big parade begins at 1 p.m. at the TV gym on Kahler Straße, accompanied by clubs, institutions and groups that are closely connected to Großkrotzenburg. The whole family then goes to the Roman fort, where a diverse stage program awaits between 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Children can look forward to craft and hands-on activities, while the clubs ensure the best service and hospitality.
The crowning conclusion will be an ecumenical celebratory service on Sunday, June 22nd at 10:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Laurentius. Musically accompanied by the church choir and the TV wind orchestra, the 850-year history of Großkrotzenburg will also be the focus here. After the service, visitors can expect a reception in the rectory, organized by the Cameroon Project.
Mayor Theresa Neumann emphasizes the importance of this festival weekend: It is not just an occasion to celebrate, but rather an excellent opportunity for encounters, exchange and community. A good reason to immerse yourself in the festivities and experience the historic community of Großkrotzenburg!
