Bad Homburg is fighting against new electricity pylons: citizens want alternatives!

In Bad Homburg everything revolves around the new plans for the region's electricity supply. The city's construction and planning committee has taken a clear position: the construction of two electricity pylons north of the A661 is to come, while the proposal for a transformer station has been rejected. FNP reports that the city will issue a statement on the new construction of the 380-kilovolt line along the river by November 4th Must submit A5. The issue was discussed at a meeting of the Building and Planning Committee with three abstentions.

The new masts, which are to be erected in the Ober-Eschbach district, will rise into the landscape with heights of 53 and 65 meters. With a distance of around 70 meters from the A5 and around 750 to 800 meters from the Südring, the route did not go through without heated discussions. There are concerns about mast numbering and possible radiation hazards. Citizens also express concerns that the planned lines are oversized and are instead calling for the existing infrastructure to be modernized.

Collaboration with neighboring communities

Bad Homburg leaves no stone unturned in this matter. The city works closely with the neighboring municipalities of Frankfurt, Eschborn, Steinbach and Oberursel. The aim is to advance network expansion efficiently. Challenges and solutions have already been discussed with the transmission system operators Tennet and Amprion in several electricity conferences. Surprisingly, the route was accepted by the city as having no alternative from an economic and urban planning perspective, although alternative routes were judged to be inadequate.

The Homburg public utilities, which are responsible for around 950 kilometers of power lines and a number of other supply infrastructures, are also keeping an eye on the situation. There is hope that photovoltaic systems could be installed along the A5 and A661 to sustainably improve supply. Stadtwerke Homburg has already invested considerable sums in the past to improve the quality of supply and relies on modern technology to support the local population and industry.

Public discussion and special meeting

Citizen participation is another important aspect in this process. The local council plans to address the issue at a special meeting. It remains to be hoped that through open discussions and transparent measures, the concerns of the population will be heard and incorporated into decisions. After all, it's not just about infrastructure, but also about quality of life and security in the region.

This means that what is on the table is not just a purely technical project, but a process that will have a significant impact on coexistence in Bad Homburg. As the city races against time to provide all the necessary opinions, citizens are called upon to raise their voices and actively participate in the discussion.
