Goodbye outdoor heat? Extreme heat wave is approaching Frankfurt!

A huge heat wave is just around the corner in Hesse: temperatures could rise to record levels in the coming days. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued high warning levels and urges caution. The sunny weather that Hesse enjoyed on Monday, August 11th will quickly give way to the hot midsummer. While temperatures fluctuated between 28 and 32 degrees, a further increase to around 30 degrees is forecast for Tuesday, August 12th. On Wednesday, August 13th, it will still be midsummer, although individual warm thunderstorms in the surrounding area cannot be ruled out.

Heat and dangers for the population

However, the prevailing conditions do not only offer summer fun. Seniors, people with chronic illnesses and small children are particularly at risk. The perceived temperature could even exceed the actual values. How fnp.de As noted, the heat threatens to rise to over 35 degrees on Sunday. The weak air movement and a critical UV index do not make the situation any better.

Frankfurt's urban environment further increases the heat development. Asphalt surfaces store heat during the day and release it only slowly at night, which means the city is affected by so-called tropical nights. Even though possible clouds and local showers are expected on Thursday, August 14th, the weather situation will not cool down quickly. The forecasts suggest that mid-summer temperatures may last until the start of the week.

A classic summer event

The coming heat could trigger one of the most intense summer phases in years. Meteorologist Dominik Jung describes the current situation as extraordinary and warns of possible exhaustion of the population if temperatures continue to exceed 30 degrees. Even if the weather conditions cool down slightly towards the end of the week, the humidity remains high and thunderstorms are always on the cards.

Frankfurt residents should be prepared for a hot summer period and take appropriate precautions. Enjoy the weather – but remember to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun!
