Historical treasures: 39,000 euros for monument renovations in the MTK!
In the Main-Taunus district, the preservation of historical buildings is very important. Already today, on August 29, 2025, the district administration has supported the renovations and renewals of listed houses with around 39,000 euros. This funding will benefit the preservation of a total of eight objects in the district. The first district councilor Madlen Overdick emphasizes the importance of these buildings: “Historic buildings are a valuable part of our heritage and our local identity,” as Taunus Nachrichten reports.
But financial support is just the tip of the iceberg. A comprehensive range of advice from the Lower Monument Protection Authority accompanies the funded measures and helps with the implementation of the renovations. The funded projects are located in cities such as Hofheim, Eppstein, Kelkheim, Bad Soden and Flörsheim.
Insights into the renovation projects
One of the most notable projects is the comprehensive renovation of a villa in Eppstein, which dates back to 1904 and is considered a unique monument. During this renovation, listed oak windows were installed, which are based on historical photos. The interior of the villa, including floors, doors and stairs, has also been renovated and preserved in an exemplary manner.
The list of supported measures is by no means short. This includes:
- Neue Fenster im Giebel einer ehemaligen Scheune in Flörsheim-Weilbach.
- Außensanierung eines Gebäudes in der Hofheimer Burgstraße.
- Erneuerungen von Fenstern an der Villa Silvana in Bad Soden.
- Sanierung der Fassade eines Fachwerkhauses in Kelkheim.
- Dachneudeckung auf dem Backsteingebäude Haus Frigga in Bad Soden.
District councilor Overdick emphasizes that even smaller works are crucial for the preservation of listed objects. This underlines the fact that over 1,300 objects in the Main-Taunus district have been funded with almost four million euros over the years, as MTK makes clear.
Monument protection – more than just a law
Decisions about changes to listed buildings are strictly regulated. Every project must be approved in accordance with the Monument Protection Act. This not only affects the buildings themselves, but also their surroundings. In addition, the Monument Topography MTK and the Monument Preservation Support Group in the Main-Taunus-Kreis e.V. are actively involved in protecting and promoting cultural treasures in the district.
Another important element are the federal government's special programs for monument protection. Medium-sized construction and craft businesses in particular benefit from the funding, which covers up to 50 percent of eligible costs. The application is submitted via the responsible state authorities, which shows that the preservation of the cultural landscape is a joint effort, as Minister of State for Culture emphasizes.
Overall, it is clear: Monument protection in the Main-Taunus district is a lively issue that not only includes legal aspects, but also makes a major contribution to the cultural identity of the region. And so it is no wonder that historical buildings continue to be “highly popular”. The combination of financial support and professional advice lays the foundation for the preservation of our culturally significant buildings.
