Eschborn's GIZ: Sustainable projects for the world of tomorrow!
What's happening in Eschborn? Real progress is noticeable in the city, because the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) has ambitious plans that not only affect the Eschborn location, but also projects around the world. After all, GIZ is Germany's main development agency and has a lot to offer with a strong focus on sustainable development and international cooperation. According to a report by faz.net Office buildings are currently being built behind the Eschborn-Mitte train station, which will provide space for 920 employees.
A large area of 14,700 square meters is planned, and the goal of platinum certification according to the standards of the German Society for Sustainable Building is particularly exciting. The new office buildings are intended to offer green, unsealed space and are planted with native plants - entirely in the spirit of climate protection.
GIZ in detail
Around 3,000 GIZ employees already work in Eschborn, employing a total of almost 25,000 people in over 120 countries. Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel, the spokesman for the board, announced that the company achieved sales revenues of a whopping 3,929 million euros in 2024. An impressive number that underlines the relevance and efficiency of the organization.
GIZ takes care of numerous projects, more than 1,700 in total, and has saved over 9.4 million tons of carbon dioxide. The employees tackle specific challenges, be it in economic cooperation, climate protection or in the area of transport and mobility. For example, the organization is supporting the expansion of transport infrastructure in Morocco in the run-up to the 2030 World Cup, supported by international credit institutions.
International cooperation and responsibility
GIZ is based in Bonn and Eschborn, with numerous other offices in Germany and worldwide. Since its founding on January 1, 2011 through the merger of three organizations, GIZ has pursued the goal of sustainably improving people's living conditions. It works closely with the federal government as well as international governments and institutions, with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development as the main client.
The organization is not only active in political and economic cooperation, but also takes social responsibility seriously. One example of this is the placement of skilled workers, where 499 participants have been placed since 2011, including 107 women who are taking part in language courses and intercultural training.
A look forward
Looking to the future, GIZ attaches great importance to sustainable cooperation and knowledge transfer between different countries. Above all, projects such as the deliveries of green hydrogen via the SoutH2 corridor to Algeria and the support of a management academy for the automotive sector in Tunisia show the direction in which the journey is heading. GIZ obviously has a good handle on global challenges!
Overall, it remains to be seen what further progress GIZ will make in the region and beyond. One thing is certain: Eschborn will be even more at the center of international cooperation in the future, while GIZ continues to focus on effective solutions to improve living conditions.
