Odenwälder trainees conquer Hesse: Best medical assistants!
There is reason to be happy in the tranquil Odenwald: two trainees from the region were recognized as the best medical assistants of their year. At a celebratory ceremony in the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, Carolin Kraus, who completed her training in the family practice Dr. Löffler, Dr. Liesem and Préalle in Erbach, as well as Nele Schneider from the practice of Drs. Wohland and Wissmüller in Oberzent. This award is not only a personal triumph for both of them, but also an outstanding sign of the quality of education in the region.
The event brought together the best trainees in the medical, dental and legal professions in Hesse. Class teacher Gabriele Schulz from the BSO was proud of the achievements of her protégés and emphasized that it was a remarkable achievement that two of the 17 trainees from the class of 2025 were among the best young talent. This speaks for the excellent training and commitment of the health care companies in the Odenwald.
The job as a medical assistant
But what exactly do medical assistants do? The Hesse State Medical Association, which is responsible for training these specialists, describes the role as an interface between doctor and patient. Tasks range from explaining medications to managing appointments. In a job that has a high professional image, independent work and teamwork are required. Above all, personal commitment and willingness to perform are what count in this diverse professional field.
The training aims to impart medical and organizational skills. The prospective specialists not only assist with treatments, but also take on administrative tasks such as billing with health insurance companies. This means that they are not only responsible for the physical health of the patients, but also for the organization of the practice. The profession offers long-term prospects and varies depending on the practice with different focuses, for example in pediatric practices or ENT practices.
Career opportunities and earning prospects
An important point is the earning potential in this profession. From January 1, 2025, the remuneration starts at 1,000 euros in the first year, increases to 1,100 euros in the second year and reaches 1,200 euros in the third year. Adjustments are also planned for the next few years. Salaries will continue to rise until 2026, which makes the profession even more attractive. After completing your training, many doors are open: jobs in clinics, health authorities or even the opportunity to continue training to become a specialist in outpatient medical care.
For anyone who wants to pursue a career in this area, we recommend taking part in trial days or internships in doctors' offices. The State Medical Association offers support and, if desired, free aptitude tests can be requested to check your suitability for this demanding profession.
The award for Carolin Kraus and Nele Schneider shows once again how important good training is and what talent lies dormant in the Odenwald region. All-round positive news that makes you want more and underlines the importance of the medical professions in Hessian communities.
