Mörfelden-Walldorf sets records: 1403 cyclists cycling in the city!
The city of Mörfelden-Walldorf did a great job at this year's city cycling and fought its way to second place in the Groß-Gerau district with a record of 1,403 participants. Mayor Thomas Winkler proudly presented certificates and trophies to the winners and acknowledged the enormous participation that the city has shown in recent weeks. A total of an astonishing 170,911 kilometers were cycled, but that was not enough to surpass the top position in Rüsselsheim with 248,649 kilometers. Trebur takes last place in the competition with 21,770 kilometers.
One reason for the high number of participants in Mörfelden-Walldorf is the excellent response from the local schools. Particularly noteworthy is the performance of class 4f from the Mayor Klingler School, which won the team competition with 384 active cyclists and 31,134 kilometers. The Bertha von Suttner School took second place with 17,565 kilometers (148 cyclists) and the SKV Mörfelden with 15,979 kilometers (47 participants). Mörfelden-Walldorf has been taking part in the competition since 2008 and is in second place in the Hesse comparison and 25th in the national ranking.
A look at the participants
Encouragingly, the average age of participants has fallen from 44 to 42 years, indicating an increasing interest in cycling among younger people. In addition, Mörfelden-Walldorf is one of the strongest municipalities in the district comparison with 5.31 km per capita, just behind Riedstadt with 5.92 km per capita.
As part of the individual ranking, Peter Müller from SKV Mörfelden impressed as the men's individual winner with 2207 kilometers. He is followed by Janev Zivko (Team Knossos Tour) in second place with 1677 km and Thomas Lindner (Team Presswerk 64) in third place. Among the women, Petra Thorn (SKV Mörfelden) is leading with 1062 kilometers, while Suri Hirschmann (Atlas Mörfelden) and Karin Bialon (Team Knossos Genuss) took second and third place.
Conclusion and outlook
Mayor Winkler draws an extremely positive conclusion about this year's city cycling. It has once again shown how important cycling is for sustainable mobility and the advertising effect the campaign has. Many municipalities are interested in taking part in this movement and can register via the official city cycling website, as stadtradeln.de reports. Due to the high demand, it is expected that cycling in Mörfelden-Walldorf will continue to be popular next year.
