Groß-Gerau outdoor pool impresses: record number of visitors despite a lack of staff!

Summertime is outdoor pool time – we know that not only in Groß-Gerau! Nothing brings more joy than doing laps in the cool water on hot days. The Groß-Gerau outdoor pool is at its best this season and has already counted a whopping 19,580 visitors by July 1, 2023. That is more than twice as many as at the same time last year, as reported by Rhein Main Verlag.

The highlights of the season are the summer temperatures in the second half of June, which caused a rush to the pools. On June 22nd, the outdoor pool had the busiest day of the season with 2,062 guests. The already good balance is made even better by the successful maintenance measures and visual upgrades of the pool: the ten-meter diving tower was renovated in accordance with listed buildings and the swimmers' pool recently shined in new splendor thanks to 450 kilograms of special paint.

Promote the attractiveness of the outdoor pool

The lawn has become more attractive thanks to tree care measures. The existing trees not only provide valuable shade, but also contribute to the unique character of the outdoor pool. Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau emphasizes the importance of the outdoor pool for the city's history - after all, it has been an integral part of the community since 1937.

With around 650 season tickets sold, the outdoor pool is at the same level as last year. Nevertheless, the nationwide shortage of skilled workers is noticeable in the facility: four of the seven positions for skilled workers are currently vacant. To maintain operations, the remaining team members work closely with external supporters. On weekends, an external security service is available to support the pool team, especially on the lawn.

Popularity of outdoor pools overall

The popularity of outdoor pools and bathing establishments in Germany remains unbroken. According to a survey by Statista, many Germans have a strong preference for swimming outdoors. Swimmers' needs for safety and water quality are also becoming increasingly important. A healthy summer is also a relaxed summer - swimming plays a special role here, as project manager Kai Steuernagel notes.

The outdoor pool in Groß-Gerau is in full swing and continues to fulfill its great purpose: it not only offers a place to refresh, but also promotes community and health. We can look forward to the remaining weeks of summer and hope that the rush of guests continues!
