Biebesheim: Youth fire department triumphs despite low number of participants!
The district championships for youth fire departments in our region have finally taken place again, but with mixed feelings: only seven of 32 youth fire departments took part in the competition. Although this is an increase compared to last year, when only five teams competed, it still shows that there is still room for improvement. Simone Kaiser from the district children's and youth fire brigade made it clear that she was disappointed by the low number of participants, but she was nevertheless optimistic and welcomed the positive development compared to previous years. In order to further increase the numbers, Tim Kaiser appealed to the participants to advertise the competitions more so that more teams can come together next year.
What was particularly pleasing was that many youth leaders who had taken part in these competitions in the past were actively involved. This valuable experience could play an important role in optimally preparing the next generation. The district youth fire brigade also ensures that support is offered in learning the necessary exercises for the individual fire departments. Echo-Online reports that the enthusiasm for the youth fire department is clearly visible, and that is exactly what needs to be fueled further.
Cup disciplines and challenges
The competitions are organized in various disciplines and are held every two years. One of the most popular disciplines is the extinguishing attack, in which a jet of extinguishing water has to be sprayed into a target container. Teams made up of five members of the youth fire department and an adult who acts as a machinist compete against each other. Another highlight is the group relay, which requires skill and speed. Among other things, knots have to be tied and hoses coupled. The 5x80 meter fire brigade relay, which contains various obstacles and is completed in timed mode, also provides excitement and a challenge. Each team consists of five members and has to complete firefighting tasks. KFV-LDS explains that the teams must prove that they are regular members of the youth fire brigade on the day of the competition.
The next major championships will take place in the future. Successful teams from the district championships qualify for the state championships, which will take place in 2018. This promises exciting higher level competition and possibly the chance to compete nationwide. Jugendfeuerwehr.de emphasizes that such competitions not only serve as qualification for the federal competition, but also as a springboard for international competitions where teams from many different countries meet each other.
In conclusion, the youth fire brigade not only plays an important role in firefighting, but also offers a platform for young people to develop team spirit and skills. With an upcoming advertising campaign and more commitment, the number of participants could increase dramatically next year, and with it the enthusiasm and skills of young people in fire service support. It is important to stack these valuable stones on top of each other and continue to ignite the fire of enthusiasm together.
