A significant signal for democracy will be set in Groß-Umstadt on Friday, November 14, 2025. Under the motto “Protect our democracy, humanity and diversity,” the OMAS group against the right is organizing a string of lights as a vigil around the town hall. This event begins at 6 p.m. and ends with the bell at 7 p.m. The dedicated organizers invite all participants to bring family and friends and to bring their own lights such as candles, lanterns or flashlights. The aim is to send a visible signal for tolerance, respect and social cohesion in order to remind people of the importance of humanity, diversity and democratic coexistence. Such vigils have a long tradition in the region - including in Burladingen, where the local branch of the Green Party is planning a similar event on the market square. This vigil has proven to be a valuable opportunity to advocate for peace, freedom and humanity. Under the motto “We are more,” up to 160 citizens gathered there to set an example for democracy, tolerance and diversity. Similar silent vigils are very popular and always attract large numbers of committed people to make the central values of democracy visible.
