Storm alarm: Fire brigade fights against heavy rain in the Darmstadt district
Dieburg, Deutschland - A weather chaos shook the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg on Monday, August 7th. Around 4 p.m., a heavy rain started, which particularly hit the western parts of the district, such as Griesheim, Weiterstadt and Messel. The fire brigade had their hands full to master the water. A total of 25 missions were processed from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., mainly due to the basement that had been completed. In Griesheim in particular, the emergency services reported large -scale water break -ins in a commercial property, where the suspended false blanket was affected, and in Weiterstadt a stream became a problem that joined the shore and entered a neighboring building. Rhein Main Verlag reports from Feuerwehren from various municipalities such as Babenhausen, Dieburg and Roßdorf.
The rain did not come alone! On Tuesday, August 8, the Mühltal community experienced a nationwide power failure, which paralyzed the districts around 7.10 a.m. The fire brigade was alerted to fill the tool sheds and to take help. Fortunately, the digital radio network worked, and the disorders from the power failure were remedied until 8 a.m. The exact cause of the failure is currently still unknown.
A look at the neighbors
The events in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg did not remain without echo. The fire brigades were also busy with several missions in the Main-Kinzig district. Over 200 weather -related operations were reported, with about 130 of these missions taking place solely in the eastern part of the district, especially in Babenhausen and Dieburg. Hessenschau emphasizes that traffic was disabled for around three hours due to an overturned tree. In Darmstadt, the emergency services fought with full basements and fallen trees, which significantly disturbed traffic. Fortunately, there were no injuries in all the storm operations.
To get the situation under control, the firefighters worked with high pressure. In Gelnhausen, Bad Orb and Schluechtern, the firefighters were also challenged to remedy the damage and support the citizens. In the meantime, the challenges in Schermbeck had shown where the fire brigade had to deal with a real marathon in missions from 9:30 p.m. Here, too, heavy rain led to massive water damage in many cellars. Schermbeck-Online reports of around 20 missions in a single night, whereby the emergency services could be strengthened thanks to the support from Drevenack.
Overall, it turns out to be clearly shown: Storms can challenge many people and communities in a very short time. The operational readiness of the firefighters and the support from the neighborhood are essential in times like this. Because when it comes down to it, they stand tirelessly at the front and fight against nature.
