Hesse's heat hammer: 36.5 degrees in Schlüchtern and where are we going now?

In Hesse the heat continues to sizzle in the second half of August. On Thursday, August 16, 2025, maximum temperatures of up to 36.5 degrees were recorded, making the day one of the hottest of the year. While Schlüchtern-Herolz takes the top spot with 36.5 degrees, Bad Hersfeld followed with 36.3 degrees as well as Fulda, Offenbach, Frankfurter Westend and Bad Nauheim, which were all at 36.2 degrees. This seems to be further evidence that summer is far from over, even if extreme heat like this week is likely to be rare.

So far, July 2nd was the hottest day of the year in Bensheim with 39.0 degrees. This week, however, was a real challenge for many people in Hesse, especially since severe weather warnings have already expired due to the extreme heat. Weather expert Mark Eisenmann explains: “Summer is not over yet, but extreme heat waves are unlikely.”

The outlook: Cool winds are on the horizon

Highs between 28 degrees in the Upland and 35 degrees on the Main are forecast for Friday. The only downside: rain is hardly expected. The sun will continue to shine and the mostly friendly weather promises a pleasant day. On Saturday the maximum temperatures will be between 21 and 30 degrees, while on Sunday they will drop to 19 to 26 degrees.

On Monday the weather will be stable with temperatures between 22 and 29 degrees, accompanied by lots of sunshine and only a few clouds. So the Hessians can prepare for a few beautiful days. However, despite the beautiful weather, the heat that has driven many people to despair this week remains distant for the time being.

Given these summer weather conditions, it is expected that many people will take the opportunity to get outdoors and spend the hot days doing outdoor activities. As always, in this heat it is important to drink enough fluids and protect yourself well from the sun. After all, a little sunshine can lift spirits, even when summer is slowly coming to an end.
