Heppenheim Festival: Reopening after Corona break on July 15th!
The anticipation is great in Heppenheim: The Heppenheim Festival starts on July 15, 2025 with the premiere of Carl Zuckmayer's amusing play “The Happy Vineyard”. After a two-year break due to Corona, the event is now not only a tradition, but also an important cultural event that connects and invigorates the community. Bergsträßer Anzeiger reports that the festival was founded by Hans Richter in 1974 and now shines in fresh splendour.
There is also an exciting innovation at the top: Iris Stromberger will be on stage for the first time as the new director and promises to offer the audience an unforgettable experience. Her husband, Ingo Schöpp-Stromberger, will support the festival with his expertise as managing director and stage designer. Those responsible are particularly pleased with the increased number of seats, which will ensure better visibility. Because the festival grounds have a certain tendency to litter, which can now be overcome more easily.
New accents and support from the city
The city of Heppenheim has not only invested in new seating furniture - a total of 40 tables, 80 benches and additional chairs were purchased. The Sparkassenstiftung Starkenburg also contributes to the quality of the event by providing cushions for the benches and chairs on permanent loan. These pads are washable, weatherproof and come with practical Velcro straps, so they are easy to use even in changeable weather. Mayor Rainer Burelbach emphasizes the good cooperation between the operating company and the city. In addition, a generous amount of 20,000 euros was donated to the festival.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, pre-sales for the premiere are nothing short of fantastic. Only a few tickets are still available, which speaks for the great interest. The event promises not only exciting entertainment, but also culinary highlights, as the Herrmann Gastro Group will be serving wine and small dishes.
Diverse program with regional flair
After the premiere, the second production “Cash!” will be on July 22nd. on the program, with Walter Renneisen appearing in two different programs from July 19th to 21st. This colorful mix of Rhine-Hessian folk play and British farce promises rows filled to the last seat. Stromberger plans to perform “The Vineyard” in about 90 minutes, plus an intermission to keep the audience engaged.
Outdoor games could be particularly enjoyable in the summer, especially since the rising Corona numbers remain a constant topic. The atmosphere at the performances so far has been characterized by connection, experience and enjoyment until the Heppenheim Festival team goes into its well-deserved autumn and winter break. A final thank you goes to everyone involved, the hard-working helpers and, above all, the numerous guests who always make the event something special.
