Peace Festival in Bad Hersfeld: Celebrating 50 years of diversity!

On September 14, 2025, the starting signal was given for the 50th Intercultural Week in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district with the Hohe Luft district festival. In bright late summer weather, numerous guests celebrated in the supermarket parking lot on Schlosserstrasse in Bad Hersfeld, where the event began at 12 p.m. and lasted until 4 p.m. The initiative, which has existed since 1984, aims to promote diversity, humanity and cohesion. Over 70 events are planned for the coming days to present the wealth of different cultures, as Hersfelder Zeitung reports.

The festival was organized by the city of Bad Hersfeld in collaboration with the AG Sozialraum Hohe Luft, the We Diversity Center and the Generations Department of the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district. Under the motto “for!” An all-round festive opening could not be missed. Hesse's Minister for Labor, Integration, Youth and Social Affairs, Heike Hofmann, as well as Bad Hersfeld's Mayor Anke Hofmann and First District Councilor Dirk Noll warmly welcomed the visitors.

Colorful program for young and old

The district festival offered a varied international buffet prepared by local associations and citizens. The culinary variety ranged from Russian shashlik and falafel to coffee and cake. A highlight of the entertainment program was the performance of the Ukrainian women's choir “Kalina”, which thrilled visitors with singing and music. Additional performances with dance and other artistic contributions rounded off the offering. Play and craft activities were organized for the little visitors, including by the local Rappelkiste daycare center, which offered soapstone grinding and painting.

The Hohe Luft/Petersberg volunteer fire department presented a new fire engine and carried out exciting “water march” activities. In addition, 22 companies supported the event with their donations to make this intercultural exchange possible. The entertainers had their hands full, and casual attractions such as a bouncy castle, chess and a wheel of fortune kept the families in a good mood.

The commitment to a strong togetherness

In her speech, Heike Hofmann emphasized how important diversity and democracy are for society. Anke Hofmann also spoke out in favor of a strong democracy that respects and protects different cultures. To ensure that visitors had an unforgettable time, the festival ended with a rousing dance flash mob to live music, which rounded off the day with joy and a sense of community. The anticipation for the upcoming events of the Intercultural Week is already noticeable, as bad-hersfeld.de notes.
