A nighttime operation by the fire brigade caused a stir in Bad Hersfeld on October 15, 2025. How East Hesse News Reportedly, the fire department was alerted when a cauliflower stand at the Lullusfest caught fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the emergency services were able to quickly contain the spread of the fire. No information is yet known about the amount of material damage caused.
The Lullus Festival, which has been celebrated there for 1,173 years, once again this year attracted hundreds of visitors to the market square to attend the traditional opening speech by Mayor Anke Hofmann. HNA reports that Hofmann underlined the importance of the festival as part of the city's soul and community in her speech. The festival honors Saint Lullus, who is considered the city's founder, and the lit Lullus fire symbolizes light and warmth in the darkening season.
Solid tradition and local challenges
In her speech, Hofmann also spoke about current projects in Bad Hersfeld, including the construction of a new city archive and a modern clinic that will become one of the most advanced health centers in northern Hesse. A new fire station, in which almost 1.95 million euros will be invested, was also discussed. For leisure enthusiasts, there are also new offers such as Timberjacks and BattleKart, which are intended to offer residents and visitors additional opportunities for leisure activities.
The mayor also particularly emphasized the importance of democracy, respect and cohesion in the city. In view of the financial challenges that Bad Hersfeld is facing, she and other mayors from the district called for better facilities from the state. “Together we must succeed in achieving the best for our city,” said Hofmann.
The Lullus Festival, whose opening was overshadowed by a small incident, continues to be a sign of the city's openness and liveliness. While people at the cauliflower stand were a little worried after the shock, it can be said that the festival and the community in Bad Hersfeld are unbroken.
