Three new priests for Fulda: A solemn ordination service!
On June 7, 2025, a significant event took place in the impressive Fulda Cathedral: Bishop Dr. Michael Gerber ordained three new priests. The diocese of Fulda, which covers an area of 10,318 square kilometers and includes around 327,000 Catholics, gathered numerous guests from the parishes and previous places of employment of the new priests on this festive day. Among the ordained priests are Marcel Krawietz from Bruchköbel, Andreas Szumski from Gudensberg and Daniel Schier from Bad Soden-Salmünster. 【a href=“https://vorsprung-online.de/service/269284-priesterweihe-in-fulda-und-primizmessen.html” target=“_blank”>Vorsprung Online reported that the ceremony was accompanied by altar boys from the respective congregations who took on important tasks during the service.
What exactly happened during this solemn moment? The ordination included the laying on of hands and a prayer of consecration through which Bishop Gerber anointed the hands of the new priests for their service. A moving part of the ritual was the presentation of the host bowl and chalice, which were presented with a special blessing. The home priests handed over the priestly vestments to the newly ordained priests before they gave the blessing for the first time as co-celebrants. After the ceremony, the new priests were greeted with applause in the sacristy and surprised with gifts by well-wishers in the deanery garden next to the cathedral. A joint lunch, at which Bishop Gerber thanked the families and companions of the new priests, was also part of the ceremonial conclusion.
The new priests also had to carefully prepare for their future tasks. In his sermon, Bishop Gerber emphasized that priestly service does not happen on one's own strength and requires a basic spiritual attitude. "Priests lead people to Jesus, but are not the main actors; the action comes from Christ," he said. In addition, he called on the new priests to be willing to be led along new paths and to have reverence for people's stories. They are deployed as chaplains in the places where they previously worked as deacons - in the Hessian Skittles Game, in Kassel and in Bruchköbel. 【a href=“https://www.bistum-fulda.de/bistum_fulda/presse_medien/liste_pressemeldeen/2025/2025_02/bpd_2025_6/bpd_20250607_01_Priesterweihe.php“ target=“_blank“>Diocese of Fulda provides concise information on this Assessments.
The first mass services for the new priests took place in the following days. They donate the first blessing, which is another highlight in their new work. It is a time of travel and acquaintance, because the priests who now work as followers of Christ embark on a path that always leads them to discover new things. This consecration is more than an occasion for celebration - it is also the beginning of a new calling and a new phase of life that will be characterized by trust and devotion.
