Mother and daughter celebrate joint graduation in nursing training!

There was a jubilant atmosphere at the Asklepios Training Center for Health Care Professions in North Hesse in Schwalmstadt when ten graduates successfully completed their training as nursing specialists on September 22, 2025. There were particularly remarkable personalities among them: Julia and Judith Liebig were the first mother-daughter duo to complete the three-year training together, leaving an impressive path full of challenges and learning behind them.

This training was anything but easy and included both 2,100 theory hours and 2,500 practical hours. Applicants had to pass numerous written, oral and practical exams during their training in order to obtain their qualification. There are also exciting projects such as “Trainees lead a station” and ethics seminars, which underline the high practical relevance of the training. Excursions to facilities such as the crematorium, the museum for sepulchral culture and a wildlife park broadened the future nurses' horizons in a special way. Headmaster Michaela Grebe and course leader Annika Schneider recognized the achievements of the graduates and highlighted their personal development: “In addition to their professional qualifications, they have also developed self-confidence and team spirit.”

The newly qualified nursing staff come from different cities and regions. Here are their names:

A new standard in training

The framework conditions for this training have been the same since the introduction of the Nursing Professions Act reorganized in 2020. The training combines the previously separate geriatric care and nursing training in a generalist training, which ends after two years with an in-depth area of practice. In the third year, trainees can obtain a “nursing specialist” or “nursing specialist” qualification, which creates more flexibility and broader career opportunities.

A major advantage is the financial aspects of the training: school fees are no longer required and the prospective nursing staff are entitled to appropriate training remuneration. In addition, the financing of the training is secured by state funds, which enables qualifications close to home. Like that Federal Institute for Vocational Training As explained, regulations regarding the crediting of absences also apply to admission to the exam: Up to 10 percent of the teaching hours can be credited, so that there is a certain flexibility here too, which takes the reality of the training into account.

The importance of the nursing profession is underlined by the subsequent congratulations from representatives of the management, the nursing service management and the group works council. It is clear that nurses play an indispensable role in the healthcare system and that the graduates are highly valued in society with their commitment and knowledge. With their joint achievement, mother and daughter Liebig have not only demonstrated their personal abilities, but have also set a symbolic character for future generations of nursing staff who want to take up this valuable profession.
