Large garbage collection campaign in Treysa: A children's bicycle found!
On October 26, 2025, a large garbage collection campaign took place in Treysa, a district of Schwalmstadt. This environmentally friendly initiative was organized by local groups such as the ADFC, the BUND, the TTC and the Altstadtfreunde and attracted numerous volunteers who worked together to ensure a clean cityscape. This dedicated campaign collected a wide range of rubbish, including filled rubbish bags, bottles, cigarette packs and even two car tyres. One notable find was a children's bicycle, which was then handed in to the city's lost property office. The owner can pick it up there if it is missing. Otherwise it will be passed on to another family via the ADFC's open bicycle workshop.
Like from NH24 reports, the numerous items collected show how important such actions are in the everyday life of the community. The participants not only actively contributed to cleanliness, but also raised awareness of the issue of waste prevention.
The open bicycle workshop as part of the initiative
The campaign is supported by the Open Bicycle Workshop in Schwalmstadt, which has been committed to the maintenance and distribution of used bicycles for years. This workshop, run entirely by volunteers, not only repairs donated bicycles, but also ensures that they are roadworthy and passed on to those in need. Anyone interested has the opportunity to choose a bike, which shows how close the community is. The ADFC promotes mobility for everyone, regardless of origin, be it refugees or locals.
The collaboration with local initiatives, such as the Working Group for Tolerance and Human Dignity, also shows how cultural and social integration is promoted through such projects. The Schwalm-Eder district and the city of Schwalmstadt actively support these efforts. “Accompanied by small donations, we can continue to maintain the workshop and its important activities,” said an ADFC representative.
Today's garbage collection campaign impressively shows that solidarity and commitment are of great importance not only in environmental care, but also in promoting community and social responsibility. Activities like these are not only fun, they also bring people together and increase awareness of sustainability and environmental protection.
