MT Melsungen celebrates opening victory in Alicante – preparation for the season is underway!

MT Melsungen started its tournament in Alicante with a convincing victory. On the first match day they were able to defeat the Fundación Augustinos team with a score of 34:28, with the players giving their best and scoring numerous goals. The efforts of Alexandre Cavalcanti, Timo Kastening and new signing Olle Forsell Schefvert, who also celebrated his 32nd birthday on Wednesday, were particularly outstanding. As part of the tournament, the team wants to continue working on its form and successfully overcome the coming challenges.

The training camp in Alicante is a central phase of preparation for the season. The players completed a total of three practice sessions with a clear focus on tactics, supplemented by a strength session under the experienced athletics coach Jonas Schmidt. The training center, which is only an 18-minute bus ride from the team hotel, offers optimal conditions for the planned exercises. In addition to the sporting challenges, the camp also includes organizational aspects: the team has four sets of jerseys, including a new mint-colored away jersey, as well as 10 rooms that are divided according to the players' positions. 15 suitcases with physiotherapy equipment were also taken.

Preparation for the new season

MT Melsungen, which celebrated its greatest success in the club's history with third place in the handball Bundesliga in 2025, is going into the upcoming season highly motivated. The first home game will take place on August 29th against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen, followed by exciting fixtures. The group phase of the European League will be drawn by mid-September, the first home game in the Bundesliga against Benfica Lisbon is scheduled for October 14th. In order to best prepare the team for these challenges, a well-thought-out training plan was created, which includes, among other things, the basics of endurance, speed and technique, as can be derived from the general principles of season preparation in handball.

Overall, the preparation phases for a football or handball season are often challenging. Trainers are required to find a balance between relaxing phases and intensive training sessions. However, MT Melsungen seems to be mastering this well by specifically integrating newcomers like Forsell Schefvert into the team and at the same time further developing existing game systems.

A look at the team

When you look at the lineup, what stands out is the interesting mix of experienced players and young talent. The players are accommodated according to different groups: from right wingers and goalkeepers to backcourt players and pivots, care has been taken to ensure that all positions are optimally filled. Teammates from different countries were also grouped into special room groups: Danes, Southern Europeans and Eastern Europeans, which promotes peaceful and good team building.

The next steps for the team are clear: They will do their best to continue working on their team chemistry and individual skills. The next test match against first division newcomers EON Alicante will take place at 9 p.m. and the anticipation of the upcoming challenges is palpable.

MT Melsungen has set the course for a successful season, and fans can look forward to the team's development. Whatever the season brings, one thing is clear: the team is ready to fight hard for it.
