From May 2026, there will be new parking rules in Kassel that will particularly affect residents. At a meeting of the Rothenditmold local council, which was attended by over 30 citizens, it was announced that the parking zone would be expanded and residents' parking permits would become more expensive. How HNA reported, the members of the local advisory board rejected a complete expansion of the parking zone to the entire district. Instead, a regulation for paid parking was advocated for the area around the Marienklinik.
There are currently only a few parking areas in Rothenditmold that are either reserved for residents or where parking with a parking disc is permitted. It is still possible to park for free on Angersbachstrasse, Maybachstrasse and Mittelfeldstrasse. A particular focus was on the vehicle density in the district, which is relatively low at 248 cars per 1,000 residents. Mayor Hans Roth made it clear that there is no general parking problem in the city, but only local challenges, especially around the Marienklinik and the Mercedes-Benz factory.
Significant changes and regulations
The planned changes are based on a structural data analysis that takes the housing situation in Rothenditmold into account. In order to ease the parking situation, it will still be possible to designate areas for temporary parking with a parking disc. Anyone who would like to apply for a resident parking permit must have their main residence in the area of a resident parking district or in the parking fee zone. New regulations must also be observed: only one ID card is possible per person, and the previous size limit for vehicles no longer applies.
