New cycle path network in the old district of Hofgeismar: efficient signage comes!
In the Altkreis Hofgeismar, something is happening for the cyclists! The assembly of new signage on cycle paths, which takes place under the leadership of the regional development of the district of Kassel, begins. The aim of this measure is to improve the wheel infrastructure in the region and to align them according to nationwide standards. The project is expected to run over a period of three months and has the clear goal of creating a uniform, clear and user -friendly control system for cyclists. "The new signage will not only improve orientation in the cycle path network, but also help to promote cycling in the region sustainably," explains the project manager. The costs amount to around 243,000 euros, of which 75 percent of the state of Hesse comes from. During assembly, however, smaller restrictions can occur, for which the municipalities and the district of Kassel ask for understanding.
Promotion of cycling in Kassel
But not only in the old district of Hofgeismar is strongly pressed into the pedals. An extensive cycling program is also implemented in Kassel. Traffic director Dirk Stochla has presented the “Building Custom Future - Cycling Construction” program, which comprises 86 projects on 79 kilometers in the Kassel road network. Exciting: More than half of these projects are to be realized in the coming years. Here the city is investing a proud 66 million euros, including funding, to strengthen cycling. The “City of Kassel 2030” cycling concept decided last year ensures that the bicycle traffic is now a priority when planning traffic projects.
- Important projects in Kassel:
- bicycle roads Goethestrasse and Schillerstraße
- Mayor-Brunner-Straße
- Frasenweg
- Druseltalstraße
The list of projects is updated annually and is created in close cooperation with interested groups such as the Radscheid initiative. In the implementation, you are based on the decisions of the city council. By the way: Part of the projects are tackled as part of larger construction projects, while others are targeting cycling.
nationwide support for cycling projects
These developments in Hesse are not alone. At the federal level, the "Stadt und Land" financial aid program was launched, which has been enabled to apply for federal funds for cycling infrastructure projects since 2021. Around 1.9 billion euros will be available for this by 2030. Over 3,000 measures have already been approved nationwide. The aim of this program is to shift traffic to the bike, especially in rural areas. Among other things, the new construction, conversion and expansion of bicycle traffic networks as well as the creation of bicycle streets and storage systems are funded
The administration gives the countries responsibility for the fair distribution of funds between urban and rural regions. There is also a special focus on financially weak communities that can get up to 90 percent of the costs.
With all of these measures, the course for better and safe cycling infrastructure in Hessen is set. For cyclists, this means: no more excuses, just on the bike and enjoy!
