Wetteraukreis relies on 40 mobility stations for a sustainable future
An important project for sustainable mobility is being set up in the heart of the Wetterau district. Today the FrankfurtRhineMain regional association and 17 participating district municipalities gave the starting signal for the construction of 40 so-called mobility stations. This combination of different means of transport is intended to act as a hub for citizens and meaningfully complement local public transport. The official application for the funding was made in the district hall, with the Wetterau district standing out as a pilot region in Hesse. How Wetterau.news reports, First District Councilor Birgit Weckler emphasizes the great importance of this project for an environmentally friendly future.
The network of mobility stations will not only support urban areas, but also rural areas in the participating municipalities. The entire project has a financial framework of around 3.5 million euros, with the average cost per station being 89,000 euros. The plan is for 20 of these stations to be built directly on rail connections, which will be particularly advantageous for Wölfersheim, Karben and Nidda. Nidda will have the most mobility stations with seven locations.
Digital networking for future-oriented mobility
An important aspect of the project is the digital networking of the mobility stations. Innovative mobility offers such as car and bike sharing as well as e-charging stations are part of the equipment. The “Space for New Mobility” (RaMo) project even aims to expand to the entire FrankfurtRhineMain region and integrates scientific planning approaches in order to effectively establish the mobility stations. This is not only implemented by the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, but also in close cooperation with the Rhein-Main Transport Association, as shown on hs-rm.de is explained. It is also hoped that a separate logo with the motto “On the move at home” will improve recognition of the stations.
Overall, the implementation will be accompanied by a Europe-wide tender process that starts at the end of May. The funding notices are expected in the summer of 2026, after which construction and development of the stations should begin in full swing. Completion is scheduled for 2027, although the budget for 2026 must already be planned.
A contribution to sustainable mobility in Hesse
The project is being monitored not only locally, but also nationwide, as the Federal Ministry of Transport promotes the establishment of such mobility stations in structurally weak regions. Like the ministry on bmv.de reports that over 100 of these stations are already being set up or expanded in many federal states. The aim behind it: to promote climate-friendly and intermodal mobility that efficiently links different transport offerings.
The mobility stations in the Wetterau district are an important step towards a more sustainable transport structure in Hesse. It will be exciting to see how the plans will develop in the coming years and what positive effects they will have on mobility in the region.
