Fundraiser in Friedberg: Together against violence against women!
A strong signal against violence against women and girls will be sent in Friedberg on November 25, 2025. As part of the “strong Wetterau” campaign alliance, a fundraising run is organized under the motto “Violence doesn’t happen in the Wetterau”. This event coincides with the International Day of Remembrance and Action to Eliminate Violence against Women and Girls, the so-called “Orange Day”. This commemorates the cruel murder of the Mirabal sisters, who are a global symbol in the fight against violence. In 2024, over 170,000 cases of intimate partner violence were reported in Germany, an alarming trend that is also reflected in the situation in the Wetterau district. Here the number of reports of domestic violence rose from 325 to 462 in the last ten years.
The event takes place between 4 and 6 p.m. at the Mainzer Tor facility in Friedberg. Participation is open to all ages and fitness groups, with organizers specifically requesting orange clothing and lights from runners and supporters. For each round completed, a predetermined amount is donated to projects that help children affected by violence.
Commitment to women and children
The first district councilor Birgit Weckler will take part in the run and emphasizes the importance of this issue. The proceeds from the charity run will benefit the Wetterau associations “Frauen-Notruf”, “Frauen Hilfe Frauen” and “Wildwasser” - institutions that are actively committed to protecting and supporting women and children affected by victims. Local specialist advice centers will also be present on site and offer informative specialist lectures. The physical well-being of the participants is also taken care of, with food, drinks and a musical supporting program.
Registration to participate is encouraged, and donations can also be received in advance. Children and young people under the age of 16 should take part in the run accompanied by a caregiver to ensure safety.
Broad support from the region
The action alliance is made up of a variety of organizations and institutions, including the Nidda district women and the specialist service for women and equal opportunities in the Wetterau district. There are also increased campaigns nationwide to draw attention to the issue of violence against women. In various cities, such as the Darmstadt region, special buses were used to advertise the “Violence Against Women” helpline and to raise awareness in public places with orange benches and handkerchiefs that refer to the helpline.
Numerous actions send a clear appeal to society: Violence against women is an issue that affects us all and that we need to talk about together. This is the only way we can bring about change and better protect women and children.
We look forward to numerous participants and supporters on November 25th - together we are fighting for a violent future!
