Reunion of the legends: Ex-coach Cakici and Conrad on the pitch!

A nostalgic day brought a smile to the faces of the two former KSV Klein-Karben coaches: Alexander Conrad and Ali Cakici recently met at the “Eintracht in der Region” event in Neukirchen in the Schwalm-Eder district. Around 20 years ago, they stood as a coaching duo on the sidelines in the Hessen Football League, with Conrad acting as head coach and Cakici supporting him as assistant coach. After Conrad was fired, Cakici even took over the helm for a short time, showing his great commitment to the club.

The eventual sporting highlight took place during a game between the over-40 team from SC Neukirchen against a traditional team from Frankfurt. The event not only offered the opportunity for a reunion between the two coaches, but also for the younger generation. The Eintracht football school opened the day with a practice session in which 40 children from SC Neukirchen were able to demonstrate their talent.

A look into the past

Ali Cakici has an eventful past in Hessian football, as in 1995 he was part of the SC Neukirchen team that celebrated the championship in the Oberliga Hessen that season and secured promotion to the regional league. They won the decisive game 4-0 against Eintracht U23 in Gießen, with Cakici playing a key role in this victory with two goals. A great triumph that not only shaped the club's history, but was also important for the development of the Hesse football league.

The 1999/2000 season was a striking time in the Oberliga Hessen, which at the time was the sixth highest division in German football. KSV Klein-Karben became champions this season and tied with SC Neukirchen in terms of goal difference, but without applying for the regional league. Cakici already knew the Hessian football landscape well, because between 1978 and 2005 the league was active under different names and continued to develop.

Football in the present

The tradition lives on, because the last game of “Eintracht in der Region” 2025 will take place on Thursday at VfB Aßlar. Here, too, you can look forward to exciting entertainment when the traditional Eintracht team plays against the club's over-40s from 6:30 p.m. Such events connect generations and reinforce the social importance of football in the community.

Historically, the Hessenliga is not only a platform for young football talent, but also a place where legends of the sport always come together. As the two former coaches from Klein-Karben prove, the love of the game and the connection to the region often last a lifetime.

From its beginnings to the present, it has been shown that football lives and develops not only on the pitch, but also beyond it. Whether it's the championship races of the past or today's young stars - football in Hesse has a vibrant history and a promising future.
