Ironman Frankfurt 2025: Exciting races & major traffic disruptions!

The 23rd edition of the Ironman Frankfurt will take place on June 29, 2025 and promises a spectacle in a class of its own. On this day, over 3,000 participants from all over the world will take part in the famous triathlon, which takes place in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. The focus of the event is swimming, cycling and running, which together make up a total distance of around 225 kilometers. The participants have the challenge ahead of them - consisting of 3.8 km of swimming in the picturesque Langener Waldsee, 180 km of cycling through the Frankfurt area and 42 km of running on the banks of the Main.

The starting signal for the professionals is given at 6:20 a.m., followed by the other participants at 6:35 a.m. The cycle route leads through important areas such as Hanauer Landstrasse, Bergen-Enkheim and many charming districts before returning to Frankfurt. The marathon will be held on both sides of the Main, with the finish on the historic Römerberg, which can be reached from 2 p.m. The last athlete has until 10 p.m. to cross the finish line, which provides enough space to appeal to less experienced participants. FFH reports that the whole day promises great excitement, as the first athletes and especially the women are expected at the finish from 3:15 p.m.

Top athletes and prize money

The favorite is the three-time Hawaii winner Patrick Lange, who will fight for victory together with other strong competitors such as Kristian Blumenfelt and Gustav Iden. The event offers a total of $87,500 in prize money, which will be distributed to the best professionals. There are also five coveted starting places for the 2025 Ironman World Championship in Nice up for grabs. These aspects make the competition not only a sporting one, but also a financial one that attracts the elite triathletes. [T-Online reports].

Traffic and spectators

On race day there will be traffic disruptions in Frankfurt and the surrounding area between 3:30 a.m. and midnight. The cycle route will be closed during the race, although some crossings at locks will only be possible upon request. Spectators can use numerous hotspots to experience the race up close. The Langener Waldsee, the Old Bridge, “THE BEAST” in Bergen-Enkheim and the Museumsufer on the Main invite you to watch.

There are also special regulations for the use of local public transport: While the S-Bahn and subway trains run as planned, there are restrictions on trams and buses. Diversions should be adopted and parking outside closed areas is advised. If you have any further questions, the traffic information hotline and the RMV service telephone are available. FFH provides further details to make the day run smoothly.
