Celebrate diversity: District festival in Degerfeld delights young and old!
The Degerfeld in Butzbach was recently the lively venue for a district festival that highlighted community and cultural diversity. A colorful program ensured numerous encounters and a wonderful atmosphere that made the hearts of the visitors beat faster. The dance group “Mixtape” from TSV Butzbach, a hip-hop girls group, the peace drummers as well as ensembles from the music school and the Turkish cultural and singing association performed at the festival. The support of many people, organizations and initiatives was crucial to the success of this festival, which radiated a happy community spirit.
The community work in Degerfeld in particular had some creative offerings in pastries. The Butzbach Youth Forum organized a democracy quiz and treated the guests to fresh popcorn. The “IB Interplay” textile workshop also offered sewing opportunities, while a “repair café” invited people to repair broken things together. Festival visitors were offered a wide range of culinary options: from coffee and cake to grilled sausages and international specialties. Bouncy castles, playmobiles and face painting were a welcome change for the little festival visitors.
Social cohesion in focus
Mayor Sascha Huber didn't miss the opportunity to thank the many people involved for their commitment. In this context, he emphasized the essential role that music plays for the community. He also expressed a big thank you to the neighborhood manager Senel Ayana and Aaron Löwenbein, who made a significant contribution to organizing the festival. The district festival once again highlighted the importance of neighbors and the exchange between young and old as well as people from different cultural backgrounds.
At a time when coexistence is being tested by various challenges such as the pandemic and climate change, the creation of a peaceful, democratic Europe and an open society remains crucial. The cultural integration initiative, supported by the Minister of State for Culture, is committed to a society that takes on these challenges together and draws on the cultural diversity of its citizens. The social change that comes with migration and an increased need for openness, respect and recognition is a negotiation process that includes all people living in Germany, as emphasized on kulturstaatsminister.de.
A district festival like this is not only a happy event, but also a strong sign of more social cohesion. The use of cultural institutions to promote cultural integration and exchange is crucial in order to reduce the fears and prejudices that exist in parts of our society. With its festival, Degerfeld has taken an important step in this direction and shown how much potential there is in diversity.
