Historical shooting: BdMP championship draws 200 participants to Homberg!
A historic moment occurred in Homberg: For the first time, a shooter from the Association of Military and Police Shooters (BdMP) managed to achieve an impressive 24-shot series without a false ring (Full House) in the NPA-D discipline. Markus Emmel, the 59-year-old shooter from SLG Dietz, turned his challenge into a triumph with 120 rings and 17 shots in the innermost center, also known as the Xer. This happened during the German “Dynamic Short Weapon” Championship, which took place on July 20, 2025 at the range on Alsfeld’s local mountain.
Almost 200 shooters competed in this championship and made a total of 1,300 starts. The event also attracts some of the best shooters in the country. Among them is Jana Ohlsen from Quedlinburg, who is competing with her Smith & Wesson 500 Magnum, an impressive Jochen with an eight-inch barrel and weighing 2 kg. She describes shooting as an excellent way to switch off from stressful everyday life and praises the willingness to help within the BdMP community, in which shooters support each other and also lend out equipment.
Challenges and successes
The German Championship not only requires skill, but also presents organizational challenges for the organizers. There is a great need for qualified range supervisors, also known as range officers, and the issue of the underrepresentation of women in shooting sports is also addressed. Beate Friedrich, representing the BdMP, emphasizes the importance of these aspects for the future of sport.
The competitions are characterized by exciting disciplines that involve shooting at targets at distances of 7 to 50 meters. In the Police Pistol 1 discipline, participants have to fire six shots at a distance of ten meters within three intervals of two seconds each. In these disciplines, the pulse of the participants is driven higher by both high tension and the competitive spirit.
Gold medals on the winner's podium
Michael Paa from Bernhardswald stands out among the outstanding achievements. The shooter won several gold medals at the championships. He achieved Highmaster results with an impressive 297 out of 300 rings in the PP1 A discipline and 299 out of 300 rings in the PP1 discipline with Optical Sight. Paa also won the gold medal in the Expert class of the new discipline NPA A, but missed the Highmaster classification by just one point.
Together with his team from SLG Waldbrunn, consisting of Marcelo Drigo, Michael Haupt and Hans-Thomas Schmidt, Paa was able to win the German championship in the Supermagnum discipline. Such successes show that the shooting sport is not only enduring, but also thriving and producing new talent.
With a look at the future competitions and title awards until Sunday, the excitement among the participants remains high. The hunt for more gold medals and best placings continues and history is being written on the shooting ranges with every round. The German “Dynamic Handgun” Championship is not only a celebration of sport, but also a platform for community and helpfulness among shooters.
