District of Offenbach is based on climate protection: New manager starts!
Offenbach am Main, Deutschland - The district of Offenbach sets a strong sign for climate protection. Johannes Lotz, who has been working as a climate protection manager since mid -May 2023, will set the course for a sustainable future with fresh vigor. His main task is the strategic development of climate protection at the municipal level, an initiative that took an important step in 2022 by joining the Hessian alliance of climate municipalities. He is supported for two years by the national climate protection initiative (NKI), which is financed from the climate and transformation fund of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, reports the Rhein Main Verlag.
Lotz, who previously worked as a climate adaptation manager in Rüsselsheim am Main, has valuable experience. He will advance the urgently needed update of the climate protection concept of 2023. A central tool is the creation of a greenhouse gas balance according to the Bisko standard. This methodology, which uses the final energy -based territorial principle, enables a clear assignment of emissions to different consumption sectors such as private households, businesses and public facilities. This is crucial in order to precisely map the actual influence of the municipality on the emissions, as on klimaschutz.de can be read.
transfer processes and new projects
The measures resulting from the analyzes of the greenhouse gas balance aim to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions by 2040. The focus is on the circular properties, procurement and mobility in public and private traffic. Another exciting aspect is the integration of projects in the Fairtrade area and municipal educational offers for sustainability.
A look at the support of the federal government illustrates how important such initiatives are. The creation and maintenance of greenhouse gas balances is a necessary part of local climate protection activities. These balance sheets not only form the starting point for the development of reduction strategies, but also enable an analysis of emissions according to height and causes. The Federal Environment Ministry promotes numerous projects through the NKI to help municipal actors and to help them implement effective measures in climate protection, as reported on eki.sh
perspectives for the future
On June 21, 2025, Lotz will be present in the district house in Dietzenbach at the "Day of the Energy Transition" to answer questions about sustainability and climate protection. These events are not only informative, but also an important exchange location to raise awareness of climate protection and to actively involve the citizens: actively integrated inside. Further information on the climate protection in the Offenbach district is available on the official website at www.kreis-offenbach.de/klimaschutz
The circle's climate protection management is on the right track. Due to the targeted funding and the committed work of Johannes Lotz, the district of Offenbach will not only reach its own climate goals, but also be a model for other municipalities in Hesse and beyond
