Kegler takes over economic management: a breath of fresh air for the Main-Kinzig district!

Since the beginning of 2025, Norman Kegler has headed the economic development department in the Main-Kinzig district. The native of Großkrotzenburg has previously gained many years of experience abroad, including in Beijing, where he was intensively involved in foreign and security policy as well as energy security. Kegler succeeds Walter Dreßbach and brings with him a broad education: He learned banking and studied political science and philosophy in Giessen. This combination of practical and theoretical experience is intended to help him master the region's economic challenges, especially the global influences from countries such as China and the USA, which he considers to be extremely important for domestic companies.

Kegler sees the close cooperation between companies as a decisive factor for economic development. “It is important that we make information flows between companies smooth,” he is convinced. He keeps an eye on important partners such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the district craft associations. His projects also include networking automotive suppliers with security authorities in order to make optimal use of the existing development potential.

Energy policy perspectives

The area of renewable energies and the associated energy security are particularly important to bowlers. “Creating a strong digital backbone is essential for our future,” he says, while highlighting the relevance of data centers to digital infrastructure. The demand for these centers is growing as more and more companies move from urban to rural areas, which is supported by the excellent fiber optic coverage in the Main-Kinzig district.

In the context of energy supply, international energy partnerships are also important. The German Energy Agency (dena) is working on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection to decarbonize the economies of countries such as Israel, Jordan and Kazakhstan, which represents an important basis for the exchange of relevant strategies. Topics such as digitalization processes and energy efficiency play a central role in these bilateral collaborations, which can support Kegler's efforts in the region. A particular focus is also on creating optimal framework conditions for the market ramp-up of green hydrogen and related technologies.

Global challenges in view

International energy policy has changed significantly in recent years. The International Energy Agency (IEA), founded in response to the oil crisis of the 1970s, is placing increasing emphasis on achieving greenhouse gas neutrality by 2050. This issue is also important for bowlers. It recognizes that the current energy supply crisis - exacerbated by geopolitical tensions such as the conflict in Ukraine - requires new solutions and strategies. The IEA is working on a comprehensive action plan and offers a central forum for the international exchange of experiences, which can also be beneficial for local economic interests in the Main-Kinzig district.

With a keen eye on the challenges posed by the global economy and a firm intention to combine the forces of the private sector, Norman Kegler is determined to advance economic development in the Main-Kinzig district. “There is something going on,” is his motto, and this energetic conviction will certainly lead to many more positive developments in the region.
