Commuter alarm: Massive S-Bahn failures in the Rhine-Main area from June!
In the Rhine-Main area, there will once again be a massive renovation push starting next weekend. From June 13th until July 4th, commuters and travelers will be affected by train cancellations and diversions. The changes for the S-Bahn lines S8 and S9 as well as the regional train RB 58 are particularly significant Frankfurt T-Online reported. The Deutsche Bahn and the Hessische Landesbahn cite current switch maintenance work around Frankfurt main station as the reason.
The city of Rüsselsheim has already informed passengers and is urging them to be careful. There were similar problems in May, when the S-Bahn lines annoyed customers due to work between Mainz-Bischofsheim and the Rüsselsheim-Opelwerk. The next wave of restrictions will come this weekend, which will also affect Frankfurt Airport.
Details about restrictions
The S9 will be canceled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and will not run between Kelsterbach and Wiesbaden main station on weekends. From the perspective of the regional train RB 58, there will be a diversion without stops between Hanau and Frankfurt Süd from June 20th to June 23rd. There are also further restrictions between Laufach and Rüsselsheim Opelwerk on the nights of June 24th to 28th. And notable deviations have also been announced for the S8, as the trains will depart 15 minutes earlier on the night of June 25th to 26th and will be canceled all day on June 26th to 27th between Kelsterbach and Wiesbaden main station without replacement.
It is advisable for travelers to find out about possible changes using digital timetable information before departure. A replacement bus service is to be set up, with stops at Frankfurt Airport and other strategically important locations being eliminated. This whole chaos has its roots in extensive construction work that has been underway in the region since the end of April and is once again having an impact on the S-Bahn lines.
Construction work in Offenbach
In parallel to these S-Bahn restrictions, Deutsche Bahn is also planning massive construction work on the west-east axis of the S-Bahn system. This affects loud FNP in particular the S-Bahn tunnel in Offenbach and the train stations there. The situation will worsen between April 28th and July 4th as there will be intermittent lockdowns.
The full closure of the section between Offenbach Ost and Hanau Hauptbahnhof began on April 30th and will continue over the weekends until the end of May and on the long weekends in June. A large number of replacement bus routes have been set up to fill the gaps in the train service. These include connections to Frankfurt and the main train stations in the region.
In addition to the measures already mentioned, Deutsche Bahn is investing heavily in fire protection, for example in the Kaiserlei, Ledermuseum and Marktplatz S-Bahn stations. In the coming weeks, the high-pressure water mist system will be tested as an effective measure to combat smoke.
So be warned, dear commuters: it's going to be turbulent! Keep up to date with the timetable changes as the trains will change noticeably throughout June. Having a good hand and remaining flexible will be the motto to get through this construction spree unscathed.
